Guestbook

I visited Hungary in October 2018. This was my first visit back in about twenty years. Hungry Grape managed to give me a fantastic experience in learning about wines and experiencing wine country. Every single detail was taken care of — from picking the wineries to the accommodation, restaurants and transport. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys wine and wants to have a customised schedule that meets every little detail. This was truly one of the highlights of my trip and also a chance to meet new friends along the way and enjoy fantastic wines.
— MELINDA, CANADA

What an amazing wine tasting trip with Hungry Grape! We learned so much about wines from the winery owners, and really appreciate their passion and love for making the wines so great. Thanks Hungry Grape for organising such an amazing trip. Can’t wait for the next!

The choice of wineries was carefully done giving the visitor a wide range of different levels of mature wines. The program was timely executed and tailored to a non-connoisseur clientele. This was both an enjoyable time while also an opportunity to introduce the art of winemaking. The tour was perfectly combined with careful culinary choices. Such a combination brought together the wonders of great food with great wine tasting. Highly recommended!

I lived in Hungary for years and still return regularly to Budapest for work and pleasure, but I had never been on a wine tasting before and treated myself to a Hungary Grape weekend tour to Somló. There was an international crowd of nine — professional wine traders and discerning connoisseurs, and others, like me, just professionals interested in learning something new. I learnt that not all sweet dessert wines are from Tokaj — Somló has some of the best boutique wine producers in the country. I would certainly recommend Hungary Grape and will use them for my next trip.

Sylvia’s wineries in Hungary were ‘handpicked’ with love and care like the late-ripened grapes of the gorgeous Tokaj Aszu.

Hungarian wine is one of those hidden treasures that not many outside Hungary know about. But what a treasure it is! And so is Hungry Grape. In my experience, the best travel businesses are those inspired by the owners’ personal interests. Sylvia and Laci are amazing hosts not only because they know so much about the best wine regions and vineyards but also because they are so passionate about all things gourmet: food and quality wine and because they themselves are ardent travelers. Hungry Grape was born out of that passion and grew through personalized trips for friends and fellow wine enthusiasts. Its approach is something that I usually look for in any wine tasting trip: not a standard tourist package, but rather something that focuses on boutique wineries and builds on personal relationships with winemakers, something that is both relaxing/simple and high-end at the same time. Whether Tokaj, Balaton or Villány, every wine tasting I have been on with these guys made it a perfect long weekend with interesting people, delicious wine and food, and most importantly, lots of fun!

I have been to two wine tours organised by the Hungry Grape team and all I can say is that it’s a blast every single time. The tours are geographically well-engineered and all the wineries have amazing wines and a unique ambiance. I’m forever grateful for the memories I made with the Hungry Grape guys.
— Máté, Hungary

Quality, an authentic experience and new friends was what I found on the tour. One fellow traveller was Colombian and we have since met again in Colombia. But the main point is that you don’t have to travel far to gain lasting memories.
— Peter, petersplanet travel

Since I‘m from South America I knew mainly the taste of Argentinian and Chilean wines. Sylvia and Laci taught me about the delicacies of Hungarian wine in a sweet and friendly way. But not just that: they are true sybarites willing to open to others the secrets of good food. Waiting to open up my Tokaj wine for a special occasion here in Colombia!
— Juan, Colombia

We had an amazing time with the Hungry Grape team. They took us to the best wineries in the Tokaj and Balaton regions, places we would never have found by ourselves, and where we got the chance to meet the wine producers in person. They also made sure we avoided the tourist traps. I very much recommend them for everyone interested in sophisticated culinary excursions!
— Gezu, Hungary

I am writing to thank you for the fantastic wine tour of the Tokaj region on 16-18 February 2018 that has been for me an eye- and mind- opener. I always thought that Tokaj wines are sweet and not being keen on sweet wines, I was astonished to discover delicious, dry wines perfect to my taste. And the variety of wines tasted is just incredible! The jovial atmosphere, the gourmet food and the professional wine tastings of many local artisanal winemakers are an unforgettable experience. On the way back I rejoiced feeling knowledgeable and empowered when shopping for wine at the airport and actually knowing the difference between different Tokaj wines and different years of the same wine. Highly recommend to anyone who loves exquisite wine, delicious food and delightful company!

This is something new! I chose this super friendly and super intimate way of discovering the Tokaj wine region. Great food, greater wines and the greatest company, who are not only pros but also a lot of fun to be around. What an honour to hear all the wine stories first hand from the master winemakers and taste their own creations and even treasured experiments knowing we were the first ones to taste something new. A must have for those who want to discover more about Hungarian wine and the personal stories behind it!
— Pisti, Hungary

I had never heard of women winemakers before our tour to Tokaj with Hungry Grape. Last weekend, I met three of them who inspired me for the next ten years of my life with their love of winemaking, their energy to put an enterprise to work, and their great style and kindness. Thanks Hungry Grape for connecting me to this special wine region where great wine and food, entrepreneurship and women power connect and vibrate.
— Kati, Hungary

As I spend a lot of time organising other people’s lives both at home and at work, for me, besides the great wine and food, the best part was ‘being organised’ for a change. Thank you for a most relaxing weekend!
